I think this perfectly sums up the internet, the blogosphere and politics. Take a recent story on slashdot. The story is about a woman who entered a water drinking contest to win a nintendo Wii. Some people don’t know this but you can actually die from overdosing on water (and no, Hyperhydration it is not akin to drowning).

Simple enough but here is a comment from a slashdotter. Probably a troll. I actually dont have the source because the author removed it but basically he said that Nintendo should be held responsible because they created an artificial scarcity for the Wii to make more money and now someone is dead because of their marketing strategy.

If I have to explain to you everything wrong with that idea you probably shouldn’t be reading my blog.

BUT, feel free to stay :) Everyone is welcome, please, bring your friends. Maybe just the cute one.

Honestly, the troll is an idiot. Nintendo is supposed to be held responsible? We should sue Aquafina, element h20, and every other water supplier for not having warnings on their bottles about Hyperhydration as well. Which means we should include Gatorade, Milk and Pepsi as other possible deadly weapons if abused. Or to be less rash, maybe we could just sue every manufacturer of every product that doesn’t have a perfect supply for the demand of their products.

Actually I think you would have to drink a lot more Pepsi and Gatorade to experience hyperhydration. The reason you die is because you’re salt/water ratio is dilluded by too much water.

In fact, you may not even be able to intoxicate your self with gatorade and pepsi because of the high salt content.

They should use that as an advertising point: “Don’t drink water, you could die! Pepsi prevents water intoxication!”

nice one. I am pretty sure it is still possible to die from too much sugar/salt based liquids. It wouldn’t be called Hyperhydration though. . hypercarbonation or something. Kidding.
I like the advertising idea -

It’s just like the studies that say that drinking a glass of wine is good for your blood pressure. You can get the same effect with grape juice and skip out of the negative effects of the alcohol.

But that’s not important, all that’s important is that drinking wine is “good for you”
