Interesting Dala Botha.

I'm sorry to hear that. My install has been faster than Leopard (except when it comes to firefox). Two things you may want to try. Use the original DVD that came with your mac to run a hardware test. This will check all your hardware to make sure it's running correctly.

Other than that you may want to reinstall leopard and do a fresh install. After backing everything up you can easily reimport all your apps using the Migration Assistant (Applications - > utilities)

Oh, one more thing. If it's brand new than call apple and they'll fix it.

I have massive problems with leopard.. it feels to me that mac is starting to get as unstable as pc and even illustrator and indesign has started hanging when the deadlines gets urgent.

MAIN COMPLAINT:
When I'm in the finder and click on folders, it takes like 5 seconds before it shows the contents of the files!! You don't want to know how long it takes to get to a document! It's as if there is this massive lag between action and response. Even when I want to change a name of a folder and I click on the name to be changed, it takes 5 sec to show the name editable.

Does anyone have advice? I'm working on a brand new 2.4gH iMAc - big screen..

And mac is loosing points. I was once a mac fanatic. Is there a platform besides mac and pc that is design friendly?

Yea I second Brikon on not having problems changing the icons. Copy/Paste works great.

You could also try liteicon which is like candybar except better and free-er.

Sam- Interesting that the zoom works fine for you. It might be the fact that Im using synergy whenever I'm using multiple monitors. Maybe that screws it up.

Groomedmonkey- ooohhh, a nice looking firebug sounds awesome. Thanks

Ha! Totally agree with the icon issue - so irritating! At least the default folder icons don't look so 90s any more.

As for safari - try downloading webkit: won't give you all the plug-ins firefox has but for webdevs this is good - the "inspect element" is pretty much a nicer looking firebug.

Tiger and Leopard both zoom just fine for me with multiple monitors. Even with three monitors (yea buddy, I found a way to do that!) I've never had problems. It just zooms the other screen in at the same point as the screen you're actually zooming in on.

Also, input managers are not really "hacks" but the way OS X provides for really any program to allow for plugins. So although there is no "plugins" menu per se, input managers are fully supported and well documented (although they might go away altogether in a future update due to security concerns).

So, I think if I said "hack" I was using the term loosely.
